I was covering a resort opening for Newsweek in the Maldives four years ago, and the resort opening was pushed back, so I was on the island with no other guests and nothing to do as it was still partially under construction. The dive center was the only thing complete, so the dive masters took me out on the boat and let me dive for four days with no more than five minutes worth of instruction! Four years later, I'm hooked and have my advanced open water degree =) But one thing I've never done: dive with sea lions! You're so lucky; what an awesome experience. That’s actually how I got hooked diving in the first place! You dont need to be afraid of the women or kids, only the males. They are very territorial but rarely will come out to play like the kids, they have tremendous curiosity!
