In Your Face Moai Statue: Easter Island

Moi Statue

The Moai Statues on Easter Island are nothing but amazing.  I considered putting up one of the standard pictures of Easter Island with the popular 15 statue that is called Ahu Tongariki.  What you see above is the the actual quarry where all of the Moai Statues where mined.  The natives chipped away at rock on the mountain that you see above which is part of the extinct Rana Roratka Volcano.

Here you can see an endless array of Moai Statues on the hillside and also see one of some Moai Statues that were still being carved out of the stone in the rock.  Once you walk far from the entry you will be able to see the popular 15 statue Ahu Tongariki with an areal view of the island.  Overall it was a great exprience and wouldn’t mind going back on my way to French Polynesia.  I was even able to get some day trading done as the internet cafe in the center of town allowed me to connect my laptop to get some work done.

One may peruse the Easter Island picture gallery & don’t forget to visit the top 5 section for more things to do in Chile & around the world!

    1. Tekena inn hostel Jacuie… 15,000 pesos a night without breakfast (recommend not getting the breakfast). In the center of town you can walk to the shore or the store in seconds

  1. I’ve always wanted to go to Easter Island and see the statues in person. I hope to make it there soon. Thanks for the picture and quick post I enjoyed reading it.

  2. Easter Island is one of the most isolated islands on Earth. A great place to stay, located on the main street in the centre of town, close to restaurants, supermarkets, pubs and services is Inaki Uhi.
