Ecuador is one of the three pieces that comprised the three countries of Gran Colombia in South America. Its name is derived from being situation on the equator. This small country has had some turmoil as of late hosting 9 different presidents for the last ten years (1992-2012). Their economy is so bad that the country started using the U.S Dollar as their primary currency since 1999.
Ecuador is blessed with gorgeous coastlines, a fantastic historical component to many of its cities, one of the most unique places in the world in the Galapagos Islands, and a significant landmass that is covered by the Amazon rainforest. Its extremely cheap to travel throughout the country with many people spending less than $10 a day for everything you need. Ecuador is bordered by Colombia and Peru.
