Traveling around the world for the last few years has brought incredible experiences. Everyone enjoys traveling because there is no right way to travel. There are newbie’s and those afraid of adventure that travel with fanny packs and extra security features. There are the adventurous that leave everything to the unknown. There are travelers right in between, young and old, experienced and not experienced.
We live in a society of customs and expectations. A society that expects us to do certain things. We all start to attend school and those that don’t finish are not held in high regard in our society.
Most of us start university and are expected to get good grades and eventually find a job.
The dreaded J-O-B.
There are rating scales that pitch us against each other; 90% and above is a good candidate, 70% is average, and anything under 59% is failing.
Ironic since I day trade for a living and if I make 59% I’m actually making money.

We have all these expectations about what we are supposed to do and how we are supposed to handle ourselves. We are supposed to have kids, buy the house with the white picket fence, the luxury car in the driveway, and be happy with their two weeks a year of vacation.
When we get out of university were expected expand our education with a Masters degree of more nonsense. That is followed by the epitome of degrees a PhD that is nothing but nonsense piled high deep.
The world has changed and it has never been as interconnected as it is now (that is of course if you believe we evolved from apes).
The beauty about traveling around the world is that there is no right way to travel. There is no way that we should experience the country or talk with its people. There is no correct way to order a meal that is foreign when one doesn’t even speak the local language.
There are beautiful moments when you only connect with a smile.
And as life involves both highs and lows there are also the joys of visiting those Third World nations. Safe to say I do not wish to get kidnapped, shot at, or detained by any local authorities.
The only reason I finished university was because I promised my mother I would. No matter who you are or what you’re doing a promise to a mother should never be broken.
Broken promises to girlfriends or wives, maybe.
But a broken promise to the woman that brought you into this world and more importantly put up with you, that is a law of the universe that cannot be broken.
Traveling around the world is beautiful because we can all find our own way. There are no expectations, there are no grades, there are no assumptions of what we should do.
Approaching my anniversary of traveling around the world just made me think of how different the world is compared to just 10 years ago. There is an opportunity for everyone to go out and explore. To live life. Save time with TravelRepublic.co.uk and WanderingTrader.

Beautifully expressed! I’ve been working for almost 5 years (straight out of university), and I’m starting to consider a major life move. Writing and travelling are my passions – so why not make this a way to earn my living as well? It’s terrifying and exciting, but posts like these remind me that taking the chance is totally worth it.

I like it. Western society has always rewarded those who strike out on their own and take huge risks in order to accomplish huge things. The difference between today and years past? It’s becoming increasingly easier to strike out without risking EVERYTHING (see things like helpx.net, Home Exchange, WWOOF, etc.).

This is such an inspiring piece. I just celebrated my two year nomadiversairy with my other half and we both agreed taking the decision to leap over the fence surrounding ‘normal’ society and run as far in the opposite direction as physically possible was the best thing we’d ever done. Here’s to more people taking the time to experience the beauty of travel.

I totally agree. Quitting my day job and traveling was the best thing I’ve ever done. I was supposed to return but now find myself living in Spain and traveling still.
I could not agree more, the last four years travelling have brought me more emotions that I could ever have hoped for.

I definitely think of it as a blessing. I mean being able to travel the world and make a living out of it is second to none. Great article man and a great inspiration to all of us! Looking forward reading about your next adventure. Stay well and stay on the road 🙂

Quite right, life is meant to be experienced. It is amazing how a place changes with time. You travel to a place once and have a wonderful time, but the second time is a different experience. It is good to see you have high regard for your mother. This will be a blessing to you forever.
