Best Things To Do In Cali – Tourist Attractions

The best things to do in Cali, Colombia were limited the when I visited the city.  Understand that Cali has the least amount of tourist attractions in comparison to all the cities in Colombia. It’s not about seeing the city but more about getting to know the people.  The city seems like a ghost town during the day but as soon as the sun goes down the city erupts.  Aside from Bogota, you should use caution when traveling to and around the city Cali.  You can read about the dangers of Colombia by clicking here.  Here are the top things to do in Cali, Colombia:

cock of the rock, unique birds in the amazon, amazon birds, cool looking birds, andean cock of the rock

Andean Cock of the Rock at the Cali Zoo

Zoologico de Cali (Zoo):

Extremely impressive Zoo which happens to be the best in the entire country.  There is a vast array of unique animals that you won’t be able to see unless you go into the Amazon.  Definitely worth the trip

Cerro de Las Tres Cruces:

This is your outdoor adventure opportunity in Cali for everyone that wants to hike!  The 3 crosses mountain will give you great views of the city and a great workout as well.

Barrio San Antonio:

This part of the city is the oldest and you can find quaint cafes and restaurants to explore.  It won’t take you long to explore since many of the buildings are run down.  Head up the hill towards Iglesia de San Antonio (San Antonio Church) were you can find a great view of the city and fun get togethers every Sunday Night.

The Artist working on his Murals

Cristo Rey (Jesus Statue):

The massive sculpture of Jesus in Cali, Colombia will remind you of the sculpture in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.  It is significantly smaller than the one in Brazil.  Along the way you can find the artist that creates the extremely impressive bright clay sculptures on the side of the road.  Definitely something different on the tourist trail.  Click here to see a picture of the Cristo Rey.

Downtown (Centro):

There are some unique and historic things to see in the heart of the city.  Make sure to check out the churches Iglesia de San Antonio & Iglesia de la Ermita as well as seeing the beautiful theater building.

Salsa:

I couldn’t mention the things to do in Cali, Colombia without mentioning Salsa.  Cali happens to be the salsa capital of Colombia and if you don’t try it once you will regret it forever!  Head out to the happening nightlife scene and find out what its all about.  Don’t hesitate to take salsa classes either.  I took great salsa in Medellin.
