This is my first “planned trip around the world” and I have to admit that planning it is rather fun. I’ve lived overseas extensively but never planned this type of a trip. I’ve already finalized plans and found accommodation in Argentina and Chile. Im currently in the process of finding an apartment in Medellin Colombia but have a few friends that say I should go to Cartagena instead. I will be spending 1-3 months in each country setting up a base and then backpacking from there to my destinations when time permits (we all have to work right?). My first leg of my itinerary around the world is already quasi finalized with South America. My South Africa (not the country the area) and Asia itineraries need a some refinement.
I’ve never been to Asia so I would love your input, comments, feedback, and suggestions! (Especially on leg 3)
South America Itinerary: Leg 1
Confirmed apartment in San Telmo Argentina right on the corner of Plaza Dorrego. One of the incredible Buenos Aires barrios I plan on sharing and why its the best for Buenos Aires accommodation.

- Patagonia – Penguins in Puerto Madryn, Bariloche, Ushuaia, La Tierra Del Fuego

Colombia Guide: Set base in either Medellin or Bogota

Peru Guide: Set base in Lima (Linares Peru)
- Machu Pichu, The Death Highway (The Death Road), Uyuni, La Paz, Quito, Galapagos,
Africa Guide: Leg 2
Kenay Guide: Set base in Nairobi

Tu solo me quieres visitar en esos paises!! jajajaj 😛
QUE SUCIO ERES!!! I’m giving you advice ya que he hecho bastante research. MALAGRADECIDO niñito malcriado!!! =P
Planning a trip is half the fun!! I love it!
I think you could spend more time and include more destinations in Brazil… not because I'm Brazilian, but.. yeah, ok, you got it. 😉
Asia is just amazing. Southeast Asia for sure. Bali is one of my favourite places ever. India is another planet and you'll want to spend a lot of time there, it's huge, I've spent one month only in the northern part and it was far from being enough time, I wish I had 6 months there.
What about Oceania? These sides here are nice too! 🙂
Hey Cris thanks for the comment, at first i did want to head to Thailand and make a base there but India is becoming more and more Intriguing. Where exactly did you go in the North?
From Thailand to India is not difficult, specially if you start from the south. My brother lives in India and he goes to Thailand every year.
We've been to the Rajasthan Desert and Pushkar, to the Himalayas and Dharamsala, to Varanasi and Delhi.
Im seriously considering going to India before heading to thailand. How much is the apartment that he lives in?
He doesn't really live in an apartment… hehehe
He's kind of a gipsy moving all the time.
Then we def have something in common!! lol
My biggest suggestion would be not to commit to too much in advance. I’ve found once you get somewhere there are often a few places you’ve never heard about but want to go to. Fortunately I don’t have a set plan so I’ve been able to go see them but I’ve met many people who have RTW flights with set dates and felt that they were moving much faster than they wanted.
As for SEA, I loved Vietnam. Cambodia and Thailand are nice too.
When does this big trip start? We're going to India in February for a while then over to Southeast Asia. Really liking the sound of Vietnam.
Lauren I actually just started it here in Toronto, I figured I would get most of Canada done since I dont plan on coming back to this side of the world after I head east. I will def be in Asia sometime in the fall I haven't decided on India or Thailand yet. Any suggestions?
JAJAJAJAJA!! pero no tengo nada para Asia.. digame las opciones senorita thailandia 😛
Asia:
Oman. You can visit Dubai too (from Oman), but it’s not that cool.
Syria
Jordan
–
Bali
rest of Indonesia
Malaysia
Thailand
Vietnam
India
the end 🙂
BOTH! And China and Vietnam too…
You're going to have an amazing time here in Argentina! You made a great choice with accommodations in San Telmo. I'm looking forward to reading about your adventures!
thanks for the comments Iman I appreciate it. Still trying to decide If I should stop in the middle east or india before I head to Asia. I plan on making Thailand my base have you been?
Thank you katie! We went for 3 weeks to make sure the internet wasn't going to be a problem since we need a high speed connection for day trading. Did you stay in San Telmo when you went?
Ayngelina thanks for the suggestions.. I plan on making my base in Thailand. Have you ever been to any countries in the East?
I'm an American expat living in Necochea, Argentina, a small coastal city about five hours south of Buenos Aires. As I'm sure you can imagine, I've had the pleasure of visiting Buenos Aires many times, and I know a couple of people who live in the barrio of San Telmo. It has a great vibe.
Karie I couldn't have said it better myself! The other barrios are nice but I dont think they match the vibe of San Telmo. how long have you been living there?
Just found this post and shared it with the hubby. We are in the beginning stages of planning a RTW trip for 2012. Thanks for posting — we’ll be reading and re-reading your article and the comments. 😉
thanks! I’ll be updated my itineraries of all the places I go to so def be in the lookout! Thanks for the comments
Johnsomk sure did.. great place to go visit but dont let me fool you into the southern most post office (they have one in antarctica when I went!!) lol Do you need any tips on Ushuaia?
There are many great spots in Asia. Most of my time has been spent in South East Asia, so here are my suggestions.
Cambodia – Phnom Penh and Angkor Wat
Indonesia – Yogyakarta, Borobodur and Prambanan (Java)
Vietnam – Hanoi
Burma – Rangoon
Laos – Luang Prabang
Really appreciate that Thomas! thank you
Thanks for the tips!
I just saw your blog, I hope you had the nice trip in Asia.
Thanks Betty!
It’s usually a good thing to plan your trip but sometimes, being spontaneous is great too.
Russia is very beautiful and interesting country
if you’re coming to ciudad del este (paraguayan side, next to iguaçu) come visit us.. chek out our photo albums of attractions few minutes from iguaçu…
have a great time in your trips!
agatha
Thanks Agatha!
As you plan your Asia leg, don’t overlook Lao. I have lived in China and traveled around Southeast Asia and would rank Lao #1 and Cambodia #2 in terms of places to see. In Lao, Luang Prabang, the Plain of Jars, and Vientiane are all well worth the trip alone.
churz bruh!! cool as site you have here.. discovered while lookin up info re index/futures trading… Anyways.. sus out New Zealand…Not just the main cities tho. Mad as place on the east coast nth island called Gisborne (Turanga-Nui-a-Kiwa) as the locals know it as. Summer best time as usual.
Or Sth Island a place called Queenstown if it is winter, for one of the coolest places for all your snow or xtreme leisure activities.. Enjoy if you travel there, Kia Ora! (that is what u will hear alot there..kinda like ola in meaning i think.
Churz bud.
