Feeding the Hyenas in Harar was one of the top things to do in Ethiopia once I realized you can actually get up close and personal with these elusive animals. It is an age old custom in Harar and there are different locations where you are able to see the Hyena feedings. The man you see on the right is the “Hyena Man” that calls the Hyenas to the feeding area and then calls them out by name in order to get fed. It was an amazing experience as they are known as such ferocious animals and they are more afraid of you than you are of them.

Eek, it could have snapped your neck in an instant. They’ve got the strongest jaws in the world. Looks like an awesome experience though…
