Literally in the middle of nowhere
This is a picture that was taken on a drive from the Sicilian city of Catania to Siracusa. This castle was literally in the middle of nowhere. I use to drive to Siracusa everyday to go to school and on the first drive this castle appeared in the middle of nowhere. There is still to this day endless miles of prime coastline beaches that haven’t been touched in Sicily. (pardon the picture quality).
I remember this castle well. I used to live just to the east of it back in the 80’s and drove past it every day on my way to and from work at the Sigonella Air Station (US Navy).
You were at the sigonella base right seagod? I met a lot of guys that used to work there when I was living there, Sicily is an amazing place.
I loved that castle- I used to drive by it everyday as well. Based at Sig and lived by Brucoli. I’d love to go back!
Was always very curious about it every time I drove by just so weird it was sitting there on its own
